Our Opportunity
GPJ is hiring a VP Account Director to support a large technology client. This role is hybrid, requiring you to report on-site to our Los Angeles or San Francisco office location a minimum of 2 days per week.
Your Role
The VP Account Director at George P. Johnson serves a multifaceted role focused on financial accountability, strategic expertise, and high-level client service. The VP Account Director must be adept at overseeing overall, complex project timelines and managing large, complex budgets for one or more clients. The role also involves developing and strengthening partnerships, skillfully balancing the needs of the client and the agency.
Ultimately, your primary responsibility is ensuring client service and satisfaction while consistently and efficiently applying GPJ methodologies. You have the ability to build, oversee, and reconcile large, complex budgets for one or more clients, and you may delegate some of this work to key team members.
Your Skills
- Experience working with Fortune 500 brands strongly desired
- Leads a team and may have multiple direct reports. who have responsibility for day-to-day account management
- Takes an entrepreneurial approach to independently create and develop account/program strategic direction and objectives;
- Proactively engages with and enables/inspires the team to add innovative strategic and creative contributions.
- Leads internal strategic meetings and present findings to client. Acts as SME on client’s brand, business, and industry
- Acts as trusted strategic consultants to our clients. Understanding not only their business, but their objectives, pain points and communicate for comprehension.
- Able to independently identify, lead and close new opportunities, strategically leveraging internal resources and teams (for organic and net new opportunities)
- Able to lead and inspire a high performing kickass team (e.g., high trust, committed, effective conflict management, focus on accountability and results)
- Experience and confidence engaging and building respected, trusted peer-to-peer relationships with senior level client top executives
- Actively helps mentor / teach others on Account team; may help manage onsite resources
- Understands how to effectively oversee overall, increasingly complex project timelines in line with strategic objectives, related to all projects and programs for the Client
- Understands effective budget oversight and troubleshooting for larger, more complex budgets, leveraging SMEs as needed
- Ensures team accurately interprets and proactively addresses impact of changes on project financial metrics.
- Able to drive accountability with team and assist with troubleshooting / continuous improvement around financial metrics.
- Able to have strategic, complex financial conversations with clients.
- Has a clear understanding of PO and reconciliation process; ensures execution of accurate, timely client invoicing.

Experience – Requires deep experience in B-to-B experiential marketing, with an emphasis on large, complex, and highly innovative programs. Must have demonstrated Account Leadership within an agency context. Responsible for driving forward-thinking approaches and concepts, identifying new areas for growth (Account Knowledge & Growth).
Leadership – Must build and lead High performing Teams. Demonstrating effective leadership in large, complex, distributed organizations. Must serve as a catalyst for effective Change Management and display an Agile leadership mindset.
Attributes & Chemistry – Must be highly Strategic and Adaptable. Possesses the right Presence to instill trust and reassure senior client decision-makers. Must be a brilliant Communicator and display strong Collaboration skills, curating a collaborative culture. Exhibits Client Orientation, prioritizing client satisfaction. Your Experience
- 15+ years of previous industry / agency experience
- 6(+) years of progressively increasing client management responsibility / experience desired
- 4 Year College Degree; preferred in Marketing/Advertising/Event Management/Business Administration or related field MBA

Salary Range: $200k – $250k
Salary is dependent on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) experience, skills, and location.
